Let's face it -- James Bond will always be one of the most iconic movie series of all time. Additionally, their Nintendo 64 game Golden Eye was one of the best games of our childhood, revolutionizing the way 1st person shooters were made. That being said, the James Bond series is also known to be quite controversial, particularly the older sagas. In a recent interview, legendary British actress Helen Mirren voiced her displeasure with James Bond, stating she never liked the movie series based on the way it portrayed women.

Now, for those who aren't familiar with Helen Mirren, she's an iconic English actress who's received the distinguished honour of being named a Dame. In a career spanning 60 years, she is the recipient of numerous accolades including an Academy Award, four BAFTA Awards, five Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, an Olivier Award and a Tony Award -- impressive, to say the least.
While she's paved the way for many British actresses to make their mark, she has some pretty big opinions about the James Bond series, which is based on an English special agent.

Helen Mirren calls James Bond sexist

According to Mirren, the whole idea behind James Bond is sexist.
"The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism," she stated, further highlighting the significant contributions of women in intelligence. She added, "Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been. And very brave."

Now, it's important to emphasize that Mirren has no problem with the men actually portraying the role.
She highlights that Daniel Craig and Pierce Bronnan, who both played the role of Bond, are incredible men.
"Obviously, he's gorgeous and everything, and I think he's fabulous in MobLand, but he also happens to be one of the nicest people you'll ever have the pleasure to work with," she added.

As for Daniel Craig, the latest Bond actor, who appeared for the last time as the character in 2021, Mirren said he is "a very lovely gracious person."

The James Bond franchise is undergoing a major shift, with Amazon MGM Studios now overseeing creative direction, taking the reins from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Fans can now expect a more neutral take on the series moving forward.
