Television veteran Bryant Gumbel, best known for his work on Today and HBO's Real Sports, has been hospitalized in New York City following what's being described as a «medical emergency.»

According to reports, first responders arrived at Gumbel's Manhattan residence shortly after 9 p.m. Monday night.
The 77-year-old journalist was seen being transported on a gurney to a nearby hospital, where he remains under care as of Tuesday afternoon, according to TMZ reports.
Details about his condition have not been made public, and representatives for the broadcaster have yet to comment.
However, a family member confirmed that Bryant is «okay,» though they declined to elaborate further.

Bryant Gumbel's legacy spans decades of American broadcasting

Gumbel spent more than 15 years as a cohost on NBC's Today Show, sharing the desk with Jane Pauley and later Katie Couric.
His calm demeanor, sharp intellect, and journalistic integrity helped define the tone of morning television through the 1980s and early 1990s.
After leaving Today, he shifted his focus to long-form sports journalism, creating and hosting Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel on HBO - a series acclaimed for its investigative reporting and emotional storytelling.
The program earned multiple Emmy Awards and helped establish Gumbel as one of the most respected voices in American media.
In addition to his on-screen accomplishments, Gumbel has long been praised for his advocacy and professionalism behind the scenes.
Colleagues often describe him as a perfectionist with a deep respect for truth and fairness, qualities that have influenced generations of journalists and broadcasters who followed in his footsteps.
The news of his hospitalization comes just a year after the passing of his older brother, Greg Gumbel, another celebrated broadcaster known for his work covering the NFL and NCAA basketball.
As fans and colleagues send their support, many across the industry are expressing hope for Bryant's full recovery, recognizing his profound influence on journalism and his unmatched contributions to television over the last five decades.
