It's with great sadness that we announce this tragic news, the youngest son of Robert Luxembourg breathed his last breath at the age of 22.
The Prince, Frederik of Nassau, has tragically, left us.
This horrible news has been relayed by his father, Robert of Luxembourg, who shared this somber news on social media.
Here is the official statement:
On February 28, on the occasion of "Rare Disease Day", our beloved son called us into his room to speak to him one last time. Frederik found the strength and courage to say goodbye to each of us in turn: his brother Alexander, his sister Charlotte, me []. He had already said everything he had on his heart to his extraordinary mother, who had not left his side for 15 years," the prince and husband of Princess Julie of Nassau first wrote. "Even in his last moments, his boundless humor and compassion forced him to leave us with a last laugh to cheer us up.

The young man, only 22, battled through mitochondrial POLG, an illness he suffered through since birth.
In his last message, his dad added:
He had barely been able to speak for several days, and the clarity of those words was as startling as the weight of the moment was profound. The answer was very simple, and he had heard it so many times but at that moment, he needed to be reassured that he had contributed with all his might to his short and beautiful existence and that he could finally move on.
