Tina's husband, Dave VanderWaal, later confirmed on Facebook that his wife had died on October 20, about 17 months after being diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in June 2024.
He described Tina as a «superwife» and «mother extraordinaire» who fought courageously through her treatments while staying positive for others facing the same battle.
According to a Pledge the Pink fundraiser, Tina had recently completed two rounds of radiation with eight more to go as of mid-September 2025.
Despite her struggles, she continued to share updates and encouragement online, inspiring others through her transparency and optimism.
«Tina truly was the heart of our family,» Dave wrote. «She filled our lives with creativity, laughter, and love.»
He added that she was an artist who designed jewelry, taught others to explore their creativity, and made every family occasion special.
Grace VanderWaal rose to fame at 12 years old when she won America's Got Talent Season 11, captivating millions with her ukulele and heartfelt songwriting.
Her mother had been a constant presence in her career, encouraging her to stay grounded and authentic.
The VanderWaal family - Dave, Grace, and her siblings Jakob (26) and Olivia (21) - plans to create a Celebration Page to honor Tina's life and raise donations for cancer organizations.
Dave concluded his tribute with a message of faith and hope: «While our hearts ache, I take comfort knowing Tina is now in Heaven - her bright, shining light still guiding us.»
